Gift Shopping.

A package was delivered here today and though it’s work-related, it still felt fun to open a box. It made me think again of ordering knick-knacks abroad. Maybe some baking paraphernalia for me, those cute stuff that I came across at an online store earlier, gifts for Christmas, books and toys for DS and more. How I wish though that I have the budget to do so. But times are hard, I do not want to spend on unnecessary things. So yes shopping will be delayed, for now.

Pregnancy Fitness: Exercise Regimens for Moms-to-Be.

In the past, pregnant women were told to sit on the couch for nine months. These days, scientific studies let us know better: staying fit while pregnant can mean less complications and an easier delivery. Plus, it’ll help you shed those pregnancy pounds faster once you’ve given birth.

While it’s safe for most women to keep hitting the gym while pregnant, there are some important precautions to take under consideration. All women should contact their doctor before they begin an exercise routine, to double-check that it’s safe for expectant mothers. As a general rule, you’ll want to avoid high-impact activities and exercises that risk injury, like horseback riding and skiing. Above all, listen to your body. Pregnancy is not the time to push it to the limit. If an exercise feels like too much, you should stop immediately.

Fortunately, there are plenty of low-impact exercises that can drastically lower your risk of injury or overexertion. Give the following options a try.

Yoga

Yoga can be great while you’re pregnant, both for your body and your mind. The calm and deliberate nature of the exercises will help you unwind and de-stress. Plus, the stretching will loosen your joints and muscles, which will help with the discomfort that can come with carrying around extra pounds. There are two things to remember: your joints are extra-flexible during pregnancy, so be careful not to overstretch and pull a muscle. And, you want to avoid poses that require you to lie directly on your back or stomach for uncomfortable lengths of time.

Kegel Exercises

These are some of the simplest exercises you can do while pregnant, yet also some of the most beneficial. They consist of contracting your pelvic and uterine muscles—the muscles you use to stop peeing. Doing kegels regularly these will strengthen that area, which will help you push your baby out during labor, and ward off incontinence later in life. The routine: contract for 3 seconds, then release for 3. Repeat 10-15 times; do 3 sets a day.

Jogging

If you were a runner before you got pregnant, there’s no reason to stop now. The aerobic exercise can get your heart rate up and help maintain overall fitness. The only catch: as you get larger, your balance will get worse. Run on a treadmill to minimize the potential for falls, and take a jogging hiatus once the third trimester comes.

Swimming

Swimming is a popular choice for pregnant women. It’s low-impact, so you won’t have any extra weight or strain on your joints. And, it has a very minimal chance for injury. Many women also enjoy it because it makes them feel graceful and more comfortable in their bodies—something that’s hard to come by when you’re very pregnant.

Bicycling

Cycling is another low-impact aerobic option. Like jogging though, you’ll want to be careful of losing your balance and risking a fall. Stationary bikes are a good option for minimizing the risk of injury.

After workout: It used to be commonly thought that by exercising, expectant moms would siphon off nutrition from their babies-to-be. While this is definitely not the case, you’ll want to be careful about what you eat before and after exercise. Don’t exercise on an empty stomach—this can lead to weakness and feeling faint. Try a small snack, like crackers with peanut butter, fruit, or granola. After you’re done exercising, you’ll need to restore your body. Try foods with a good combo of carbs and protein—carbs will bring the glucose and energy, and the protein will aid in muscle restoration. A smoothie with fruit and yogurt is a good choice.

6 Healthy Junk Food Alternatives for Kids.

This guest post was written by Jane Smith who also writes on the topic of becoming a Radiology Technician and earning a psychology degree online for onlineclasses.net

Sure, we all want our kids to eat healthier. But where do you even start, when their main dietary staples are hot dogs and chips? It’s hard enough to get adventurous eaters to try anything labeled “healthy,” much less a kid who lives off two main food groups that weren’t even invented a hundred years ago. The key to keeping your kid feeling well, however, is to make sure they get a variety of foods. Try out this list of sneakily healthy alternatives on your kid—you may just end up with a few more foods that they’ll actually ask to eat.

Junk food kids love: Chips

A healthy alternative: Bagel Chips

  • Why kids will love them: While pita chips might be a good “adult” alternative to potato chips, the taste is a little bland in comparison. Bagel chips have the same satisfying crunch and crispiness of potato chips, to pass a kid’s taste test. Stacy’s brand comes in yummy varieties like garlic and everything bagel. They’re not fried, and they have less fat and sodium than regular chips.

Junk food kids love: Hot Dogs

A healthy alternative: Turkey Dogs

  • Why kids will love them: While it’s probably impossible to sneak a tofu dog passed your kid’s taste buds, turkey dogs mimic the flavor and texture of traditional dogs quite well. The upside? They have a lot less fat than regular hot dogs, and you can easily find brands that promise organic meat and no nitrates or fillers.

Junk food kids love: Oreos

A healthy alternative: Bananas and Raw Chocolate Spread

  • Why kids will love it: You’re not skimping on taste, when you choose a chocolate spread made with real cacao and sweetened with a low glycemic index sweetener like agave nectar. Instead of eating Oreos that are full of fat, processed sugar, and an array of artificial flavors, you’ll be feeding them something that’s actually real food. Love street is one brand to check out.

Junk food kids love: French Fries

A healthy alternative: Cheese Straws

  • Why kids will love them: Kids can’t get enough French fries, not only because they quell a hunger for something salty, fatty, and fried, but also because they’re fun and easy to eat. Baked cheddar cheese straws are a kid friendly shape, and they’re great for on the go. Pack some in a Ziploc instead of stopping at a fast food joint. While they’re not exactly as healthy as carrot sticks, they’ll keep you out of that drive through window.

Junk food kids love: Sugar Cereal

A healthy alternative: Organic Cereal

  • Why kids will love it: While you can’t really find the day-glo colors of Lucky Charms anywhere else, you can find cereals that have real wholesome ingredients, less sugar, and even better taste. Most kids cereals are fortified with vitamins, but that’s no good reason to get your kid hooked on a bowl of sugar for breakfast. Nature’s Path Envirokidz line includes some great kid friendly cereals, like the peanut butter Panda Puffs, which are high on taste but low on sugar and other processed ingredients.

Junk food kids love: Ketchup and Ranch Dip

A healthy alternative: Hummus

  • Why kids will love it: You may have trouble getting your kids to try hummus for the first time, but after they have taken the initial plunge, I bet they’ll love this snack. It’s delicious, and the protein will have them hooked—the hummus will satisfy in a way that those other low-nutrient spreads won’t. It’s fun to eat, and if you pair it with bagel chips, you’ve replaced a former high-calorie junk food pair with a delicious alternative. It’s great for kids’ lunches or on-the-go after sports practice, and it comes in tasty flavors like garlic and red pepper.

Personalize It.

Do you see that cute blanket above? I would love to have a blanket like that with my son’s face printed on it. I think this will make a great gift as well, especially for his grandparents. I want that bag in the middle, too. For the longest time I have been wanting to order a similar bag but never had the chance, and perhaps, the budget to do so. Good thing I am in search of cute personalized gifts, I came across these lovely items. The plate I will surely be ordering as I need little items to fill the empty wall in our dining area.

On Bravina.

If there’s one thing that I am not comfortable doing, it is speaking in front of a crowd. I am naturally a shy and quiet person. I can get loud at times but only with people I am at ease with. I have experienced speaking in public during my high school days and I even had a public speaking class during one of my trainings in my job, and I got nervous each and every time. But still I am happy that I am not part of those who actually have public speaking anxiety. Symptoms of this type of anxiety include nervousness, anxiousness, increased heart rate, short term memory loss, dizziness and shortness of breath, to name a few. Do you know that one out of three people consider speaking in public as the thing that they fear the most? And this is above divorce, job loss and even death. Quite surprising, isn’t it?

Good thing, there is a natural supplement called Bravina, that can help people conquer their fear of public speaking. Bravina is composed of nine natural supplements, like valerian root, passiflora and gingko biloba to name a few. Aside from preparation, practice, utilizing notes, Bravina is said to aid people in overcoming public speaking anxiety by facilitating relaxation and promoting concentration. Get to know more about Bravina through their site.

Eye Talk.

I wonder where I can find the best eye cream for me. My skin badly needs some serious care, even the husband who doesn’t really care much about this stuff says so. Good thing I came across BesteEyeCreams.org. They review the highed rated eye creams in the market making it so much easier for consumers to take a pick. Let’s see if I can one that fits my needs and my budget, as well.

Anti-aging.

Besides surfing for scrapping freebies, I was also reading about the best anti aging products out there. There are so much products in the market claiming that they are the best and it can be confusing and overwhelming. Antiaging-products.net provides unbiased anti-aging product reviews. They combined reviews of anti-aging skin care experts as well everyday consumers. They collect reviews, analyze them and recommend the best products to buy.

Save The Earth.

My son’s class held a Museum Day. Aside from creating displays of some of the world’s most popular attractions, their artworks were also displayed on the walls of their classroom. They created artworks about protecting the environment, how to take care of plants, how to save the ocean and how to conserve energy. The kids even presented a song about taking care of mother Earth, that they themselves created. It is a good thing that even at their very young age, they are being taught of these things. After all, they are the ones who are going to suffer if we do not take care of our environment now.

And talking about saving the planet, I came across enigin PLC, a blog dedicated to energy conversation. It talks about saving the planet by saving energy, energy efficiency and mainly about energy saving business opportunities. The blog also talks about green ideas, which I am very much interested. You will also get to learn about saving energy and consequently save money. Their topics are very apt for today’s situation. And what’s the best thing about this blog is you not only get to learn about protecting the environment and energy talks, but you also learn about making money through energy saving business.

This is a review post.

Romantic Vacation.

Who doesn’t want a romantic cancun vacation? I have long been wanting a vacation but I guess that will still be a dream for now. Anyway, I am happy to have come across a resort that is not only situated on a beautiful beach but is likewise child- and family-friendly, too. Both parents and kids can look forward to a vacation filled with pampering and luxury. You can only find such kind of service from Karisma Hotels and Resorts. Karisma has various hotels and resorts that guests can choose from. Aside from family-friendly resorts, they also have adults-only resort, ocean-front suites and more. And the best part, each of their resort offers its very own yummy and surprising indulgences and will cater to their guests diet requests – whether you want to indulge or watch your diet.
